Changes in Public Transport System under JnNURM

The Ministry of Urban Development in collaboration with the National Institute of Urban Affairs organized a half day workshop to discuss the findings of the study “Changes in Public Transport System under JnNURM”, focusing on evaluating the impact of the modern fleet of buses procured under JnNURM by five mission cities viz. Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Panjim, Indore and Bhubaneswar and the impact of these buses on the local transport sector. It was organized and funded under the PEARL Programme as part of its mandate to support capacity building through the PEARL network to disseminate knowledge to sector professionals. The main purpose of the workshop was to discuss the constraints faced by the mission cities in implementing the transport system under JnNURM, as drawn out by the study and to discuss about the study‟s contribution to the improvement of the public transport systems in Indian cities based on the lessons learned in these five cities.
