Good Practice Documentations


TheCities Alliance (CA) sponsored Knowledge Support for PEARLcomplements the support provided by the Ministry of UrbanDevelopment, Government of India. Its aim is to strengthen thenetwork and enhance its effectiveness as a common platform forlearning and knowledge sharing among cities. A number of tasks havebeen planned to achieve the objectives of the program. In an effortto fill the critical knowledge gaps for efficient service delivery inIndian cities, a number of exemplary good practices from citiesacross the country have been compiled into five thematic volumes.Each volume addresses a specific issue such as water supply &sanitation, urban transportation, solid waste management, culturalheritage and urban reforms. Cases are examined from the perspectiveof increasing operational efficiency, enhancing systemic capacity,the creation of efficient public private partnerships and buildinglong-term sustainability.

Global Good Practice Documentation


The PeerExchange and Reflective Learning (PEARL) network established underJawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) with anactive support from Cities Alliance (CA) is making an effort to fillthe critical knowledge gaps for efficient service delivery in Indiancities. A number of good practices from across the globe havebeen compiled to address specific issues in the areas of watersupply, sanitation, solid waste management, urban mobility, and theincorporation of information & communication technology inservice delivery processes. Cases are examined from the perspectiveof increasing operational efficiency, enhancing systemic capacity,creating efficient public private partnerships and building long-termsustainability into urban management activities. Priority has beengiven to cases from developing countries in order to increaseadaptability and replicability of key concepts and practices. Eachvolume examines case specific processes, activities and results togarner ways of improving operational efficiency.

Urban Initiatives


By inviting cities to submit good initiatives being undertaken by them in a predefined format. The cases are then published as a catalogue of good practices on specific themes.
